Doing Well and Doing Good: 2020 Inner City 100 Winner Cube Care grows as an industry and community leader
As a BIPOC, woman, and immigrant, Susana Robledo faced many systemic challenges on her path to entrepreneurship. Yet, the Founder and CEO of Miami-based Cube Care, did not allow those challenges to deter her determination to succeed. Susana was driven to create a business that not only prospered financially, but also paid its success forward by giving back to the South Florida community – and she is succeeding on both fronts.
Susana founded Cube Care in 1999 when she secured her first contract with a local Miami hospital to repair cubical curtains. Since then, the business has grown into a multi-million-dollar enterprise that specializes in providing cubicle curtains and privacy solutions for the healthcare industry. Even with her business’s incredible growth, Susana continues staying true to her values and to her community.
A core component of Cube Care’s culture is making a difference and working to strengthen the company and the community by empowering people. The company makes it a point to hire immigrants, people of color, and individuals who often are overlooked or not given a chance in the community because as Susana shared, “By giving them a chance, I am believing again in myself – they are a version of me.”
“Being able to have this corporation…to provide jobs to over 70 people, and…to close the wealth gap, it is important to me as a person,” she said. “Because I wouldn’t have been in this position if it weren’t because of other people within the community that actually helped me through it.”
In 2020, Cube Care was recognized as one of the Inner City 100 (IC100) winners, ranking 92nd on the list, and received the Chevron Dorothy A. Terrell Community Impact Award. Susana’s and Cube Care’s story, ethos, and impact are an inspiration to many entrepreneurs and prove what is possible for businesses in our under-resourced communities.
