The Urban Grape is a socially-responsible and hospitality-driven wine, beer, and spirits store in Boston, MA, and the only store worldwide to use its proprietary Progressive Scale, a system that categorizes wine by its body instead of by varietal or region.
The Urban Grape has always been a strong partner to its local community through its support of Boston’s nonprofit organizations. In response to the murder of George Floyd in 2020, The Urban Grape’s owners, TJ and Hadley Douglas, founded The Urban Grape Wine Studies Award for Students of Color at Boston University. The fund was endowed with $200,000 raised by the Douglases in just eight months. The year-long, in-depth program focuses on education, paid internships in two states, and mentorship to create pathways for lifelong careers in the wine industry for BIPOC participants. The program is currently in its second year.
